Kim Kardashian was given a lock of Marilyn Monroe’s actual hair after wearing the actress’s actual dress to the Met Gala 2022.
The reality star, 41, made headlines after wearing Marilyn’s historic ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ gown for the red carpet at the Met Gala, before changing into a replica after doing the red carpet.
But that’s not the only part of Marilyn memorabilia the mother-of-four has got her hands on, as she was also gifted some of the icon’s hair, too.
Kim was loaned the famous dress by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! museum for the evening, and they had an extra surprise in store for her too.
They shared a video of Kim being gifted a lock of Marilyn’s hair, with a Ripley’s staffer telling her the gift is either ‘very cool or very weird’.
Ripley’s added: ‘During @KimKardashian’s Met Gala dress fitting at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! HQ, our team surprised her with a silver box that contained an actual lock of Marilyn’s iconic platinum hair.
‘The Ripley’s team also filled her Met Gala dressing room with a trove of Marilyn Monroe and JFK memorabilia to help inspire her look.’
In the video, Kim can be seen gasping with joy before saying: ‘Oh my god I’m literally going to do some crazy voodoo s**t and channel her!
‘This is so special to me. Thank you so much, this is so cool,’ before adding to boyfriend Pete Davidson, 28, who was off-camera: ‘This is sleeping with me every night… sorry babe.’
Marilyn had worn the dress for her famous performance for John F. Kennedy’s 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962, just three months before her death.
As the dress is so iconic and a part of American history, no alterations were allowed to be made to it, so Kim had to lose 16lb to fit into it.
She told Vogue: ‘I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.’
The dress also came with guards and Kim had to wear gloves to try it on, and had to change into a replica after doing the red carpet so the real dress wouldn’t go through any undue wear and tear on the night.
